Mr. Dan Warren, age 81 of DeFuniak Springs passed away in the late hours of Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Healthmark Regional Medical Center. He was born August 9, 1927 in DeFuniak Springs the son of Marvel Orin Warren, Sr. and Gertrude Sarah Simmons Warren. He was a member of Walton High School’s Class of 1946. He was a veteran having served his country with the United States Navy. Mr. Warren was a graduate of Troy State Teacher’s College. He married Elizabeth “Betty” Wilkes in 1971 and taught at the Vo-Tech School in Fort Walton Beach for about ten years. In 1999 he and Betty moved back to DeFuniak Springs. Betty died in 2000. Dan loved to hunt but his passion was solitaire. He was a story teller and was always available to offer advice, sometimes unsolicited, and freely shared his opinion on any subject. Dan was a member of First United Methodist Church of DeFuniak Springs. He is predeceased by his wife Betty and his brother Buddy Warren.
Among survivors are his sister, Mary Carolyn Murray of DeFuniak Springs. His sisters-in-law, Dorothy Wilkes Thomas of Eufaula, Alabama, Janelle Wilkes of Dadeville, Alabama, Bonnie Wilkes of Troy and Beverley Warren of DeFuniak Springs. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Floral arrangements are being accepted or memorials may be made in his wife’s memory to Parkinson’s Foundation, Memory of Betty Warren. A time of visitation will be Friday May 8, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel. Funeral Services will be Friday at 11:00 A.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel with Reverend Rob West officiating. Burial will follow in the Warren Plot in Magnolia Cemetery.
