Colonel Gregory Guy Malloy, age 44 of DeFuniak Springs died in the line of duty Wednesday, February 2, 2011. He was born January 5, 1967 in Fort Walton Beach the son of Guy Lynton Malloy and Mary Sue Kent Malloy. Greg was a 1985 graduate of Walton Senior High School and joined the Florida Department of Corrections in 1988 working his way up through the ranks becoming a Colonel in charge of the K-9 program for the department. Greg was an avid outdoorsman, loved hunting and fishing and was the number one fan of his daughter, Payton as she participated in sports at Paxton School. As she played with the Ladycats in basketball and softball, Greg could often times be heard from the stands yelling “Bow Up P” as he encouraged his daughter. Most importantly, the family rejoices in the fact that at nine years old, on March 9, 1976, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Among survivors are his wife, Donna Sue Malloy. His daughter, Payton Sue Malloy.His mother and father, Lynton Malloy and wife Pat and Sue Griner and husband Michael. His sister, Deidra Pettis and husband Ronald; his step sister, Brandy Dyer and husband Robert; his mother and father in law, Betty Sue and Joe Weeks; his sister-in-law Christina Weeks; his nephews, Tennyson, Dalton, Dylan and Justin and a special cousin Donna Jo Kent.
Floral arrangements are being accepted or Holmes Correctional Institute has set up a memorial fund for Colonel Malloy’s daughter and memorials may be made in Colonel Malloy’s memory to Holmes Correctional Institute, 3142 Thomas Drive, Bonifay, Florida 32425. Active pallbearers will be Chris Landrum, Timmy Cannon, George Hogans, Philip Cates, Tim Harris, Mark Lumpkin, Andrew Teal and Dexter Early. A time of visitation will be held Saturday, February 5, 2011 from 5 until 8 P.M. in Walton Senior High School. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 6, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. in Walton Senior High School with Reverend Frank McIntosh officiating assisted by Brother David Ellis. Full graveside honors will follow in Darlington Baptist Church Cemetery.
