Mr. Cecil J. Floyd age 93 passed away at the family residence Sunday, March 7, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born February 9, 1928 in the valley, the son of Jesse Last Floyd and Winnie Lee McHenry Floyd. Cecil grew up in the Red Bay, DeFuniak Springs area and fished all of the lakes and creeks and rivers and streams of Walton County with his dad, which developed in him a love of the great outdoors. He went to Walton High School graduating with the Class of 1947. He immediately got employment with REA where he was employed from 1947 until 1965 as an Electrical Use Advisor. Cecil and his wife made the move for Cecil to branch out on his own and he opened Cecil J. Floyd Mechanical Contracting and within just a short while commanded all of the business in Walton County and surrounding counties. He maintained his business until around 1988 when ill health forced his retirement. Cecil left the business, but he did not just go home and sit; He had a wood working shop built at his house where he constructed some very fine furniture which graces his home and the homes of his children. He was an avid FOX NEWS advocate and a die hard Republican. Most important to Cecil was family, he loved being dad, and grandpa and great grandpa and cherished the time he was able to spend with each of them. He is predeceased by his parents, his son Rusty Floyd and wife Donna, his sister, Nell Phelps and husband Henry and his brother Wendell Floyd and wife Jeanette.
Among survivors are his wife of 72 years, Theresa V. Floyd; his children, Sherry Sandquist and husband Lyle, Gregory Floyd and wife Charlotte, Holly Shipman and husband Gary, his grandchildren, Chris and wife Danielle, Zack and wife Chaela, Tess and Joseph. Nine great grandchildren and three nieces and two nephews and numerous grand nieces and nephews also survive.
It was Cecil's wish to be cremated. Private family services shall take place at a later date.
