Mrs. Catherine Campbell King, daughter of the late Sheriff and Mrs. Sam Campbell and wife of the late James E. King, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2009 at the home of her daughter in Daphne. She was born June 29th, the daughter of Lehman Shelby “Sam” Campbell and Elizabeth Lenora Beasley Campbell. Catherine taught school at Walton Senior High School, later teaching at Okaloosa Walton Junior College. Most will remember Catherine in her job as Walton County Clerk of Courts, a position she held for a number of years.
Among survivors are her daughters, Karen King Durkin of DeFuniak Springs and Dr. Sandra King Parker and husband Dr. James Parker, Jr. of Daphne, Alabama. Her sisters, Virginia Pridgen of Gaskin and Carolyn Dixon of DeFuniak Springs. Her grandchildren, Colby Parker, Christopher Durkin, Kathleen Durkin and Courtney Parker. Her brother-in-law Wiley J. King and wife Eloise of Fort Walton Beach and nieces and nephews also survive.
Floral arrangements are being accepted or memorials may be made in Catherine King’s memory to Renovation Fund, First United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 9, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435. A time of visitation will be Monday, August 10, 2009 from 6 until 8 P.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in First United Methodist Church with Reverend Jesse Evans, Reverend Jim Fillingim, Reverend John Dixon and Reverend Rob West officiating. Burial will follow in Concerned Christian Church Cemetery on Highway 90 West in DeFuniak Springs.
