Birdie Oldfield

Mrs. Birdie Oldfied, age 83 of DeFuniak Springs passed away Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the home of her daughter in DeFuniak Springs. She was born July 9, 1926 in Hartford, Alabama the daughter of William Albert and Rosie Belle Jarvis Mahan. She met and married Richard Oldfield and they moved to DeFuniak Springs. For a number of years Birdie was a homemaker and raised her children. When the kids were highschool age she opened Birdie’s Beauty Hut in Oakwood Hills and ran the business some ten years or so. After closing her business she continued to operate her salon on a part time basis out of her home. Oakwood Hill’s Church of Christ got it’s start meeting in Birdie and Richards home until the church building was erected. In her spare time she loved working in her garden, raising all kinds of flowers and also had a love of woodworking and crafts. She followed very carefully the “soaps” on Chanel 4, As the World Turns and Young and Restless. Birdie was a woman who loved her family, her children and grandchildren and her long time friends, Bertha, Alice and Imogene. Mrs. Oldfield was a member of Oakwood Hills Church.

Among survivors are her sons, Dennis Morgan and wife Judy; Michael Morgan and wife Nita, all of Samson, Alabama. William J. Oldfield and wife Pam of DeFuniak Springs. Her daughters, Donna Barley and Penny Partridge both of DeFuniak Springs. Her brother, Tim Mahan and wife Lydia of Milton. Her sisters, Inez Ballard of Pheonix City, Alabama and Imogene Pridgen of Geneva. Her sister-in-law Connie Mahan of Live Oak. Eighteen grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren also survive.

Memorials may be made in Birdie Oldfield’s memory to Oakwod Hill’s Church, 480 Country Club Drive, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435 A time of visitation will be Tuesday, October 13, 2009 from 1 until 2 P.M. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be 2 P.M. Tuesday in Jerry Evans Chapel with Pastor William Oldfield officiating. Burial will follow in Concerned Christian Church Cemetery.
