Mrs. Barbara Garrett Williams, age 78, widow of the late Charles H. “Chuck” Williams, Jr. of DeFuniak Springs passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017 in Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. She was born August 2, 1938 in DeFuniak Springs, the daughter of Reverend Floyd and Edna Burgess Garrett. She attended Walton County public schools graduating with Walton ‘s Class of 1955. Immediately after graduation, at age 17, she was chosen from 100 applicants for a job on Eglin Air Force Base, civil service, a position she held for some 38 years, at the same desk, seldom missing work for any reason. She reflected that same dedication to her Lord, her family, her friends and her church where she served as Nursery Director for many years. All who knew Barbara knew of her grace, her dignity, and her moral and ethical values. Barbara enjoyed working in her yard and especially enjoyed spending time with family. Most of all she enjoyed the special times with her children and grandchildren. She demonstrated to her family what the love of Christ looks like in her unwavering commitment to her husband in his passing. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Chuck Williams, her parents and her sisters, Yvonne and Waveine. She was a member of First Baptist Church of DeFuniak Springs.
Among survivors are her daughter, Terri McLaney and husband Rick of Crestview; her son, Charles H. “Chip” Williams, III and her granddaughter Stephanie Rhodes and husband Thomas and her grandson Jason Bryan all of DeFuniak Springs. Three great granddaughters, Alayah, Ryleigh and DeLaney. Her sister-in-law Marguerite Kinney and husband Bob and her nieces Jane and Karen and nephew Jim and family also survive.
Flowers are being accepted. A time of visitation will be Tuesday, May 16, 2017 from 1 until 2 P.M. in First Baptist Church with the funeral beginning at 2PM in the church with Reverend Tim Burnham and Reverend Jerry Chumley officiating. Burial will follow in the Williams Family Plot in Magnolia Cemetery.
