Barbara Louise Bullen passed away on Thurdsay, September 12, 2024. She was 85 years old. Barbara was born in Wilmington, Ohio on July 6, 1939, to Hubert Lee Bullen and Orba Etta Carey Bullen. She spent her early years in Ohio, graduating from Wilmington High School, before she moved to Panama City, Florida to start a family, and then eventually made Walton County, Florida her home. She worked as a permit clerk with the Walton County Building Department, and she was Methodist by faith.
Barbara was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and she was great at all of those things. She loved spending time with her family and making sure they were all taken care of. They were each gifted with precious memories of her loving them well – The holidays were a time Barbara always went above and beyond on decorating, giving gifts, and preparing food. Pinching ears was a fun way she showed love. The end of summers will bring her children memories of her taking them school clothes shopping, and the song “Another One Bites the Dust” will bring a smile as they remember her dancing. Shoney’s will always be a reminder of the time she and her best friend Chick shared an entire strawberry pie, and Christina will always treasure the time they shared studying for her spelling bee and then playing card games to decompress after studying. Her three grandsons give her credit for making them the men they are today as she was there for them during some difficult times in their childhood. Her dedication, unconditional love, and wise nurturing brought them through and forever changed them. Even though she was not able to see them often, her great-granddaughters will know that Barbara treasured every opportunity she had to spend time with them.
Serving her church, giving to charitable events, and assisting the homeless and needy were also some of her passions. As the firstborn daughter in her family, Barbara began taking care of others when she was young as she helped raise and support her younger sisters. She continued serving others throughout her life, and she was always attentive to the needs of those around her.
Being diabetic did not stop her from creating and enjoying sweets. She was an excellent baker, and she loved sampling baked goods, too! She also enjoyed going to yard sales, cooking, gardening, and shopping with Chick.
Barbara is survived by her son Darcy J. Chaney, daughters Tracy R. Chaney, and Christina E. Bowles, sisters Brenda Fawley, Nancy Garner, Rosemary Brammell and her husband Thomas, and Kathleen English. She also leaves behind grandchildren Darcy Chaney, Jr. and wife Ann, Justin Chaney and wife Ivey, and Jeb Chaney, and great-grandchildren Trinity, Andrew, Jasper, Gabriel, Joey, Shelby, Ellie Brynn, and Sarah Weeks.
She is preceded in death by husband Wendell L. Chaney, husband Willams A.Bowles, husband Malcolm Strickland, sons Roy Chaney and Troy Bowles, brothers Kenneth Bullen, Ronald Bullen, Darrell Bullen, Carey Bullen, and Larry Bullen, and sisters Sue Bullen and Ruth Lansing.
Barbara was a strong woman, always loving and always helping. She lived by two renowned and earnest notions -- “Never judge a book by its cover” and “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” – ideas that can be carried on by those dear to her. She was a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
