Mr. Avery Olen Stanley, age 55 of DeFuniak Springs passed away late Wednesday afternoon, September 2, 2015 in Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. He was born October 30, 1959 in Montgomery, Alabama, the son of Henry Avery Stanley and Mary Virginia Doster Stanley. He moved to Florida at age four and then to the Freeport/DeFuniak Springs area at age fifteen, and attended Walton County Schools. After leaving school he became employed in Marine Construction and worked all over the gulf coast area in that profession. Olen loved his friends and spending time with his family. He was recognized by family members as being an excellent cook, specializing in "Pot of Gopher" and collard greens with fried pork chops. Like all great Southern guys he loved Western Movies, especially those staring John Wayne and was a fan of Sanford and Son. Outdoors he loved water, fishing and cast netting, and made many of his own cast nets. Olen was Baptist by faith.
Among survivors are his Mother, Mary Virginia Stanley. His sons, Olen Stanley and Amanda, Sidney Calvin Stanley and Timothy Wayne Mauldin. His daughters, Krystle Stanley, Virginia Ann Stanley and Angel Lee Stanley. Seven grandchildren, Henry Avery Olen Stanley, Jimmy Edward Stanley, Declan Douglas Stanley, Case Edward Maulden, Jacob Maulden and soon to be Stacey Lisa Elaine Kennedy and Tyler Lee Avery Kennedy. His brothers, Stan and Sarah. Mike, Lamar, Leonard and J.B. His sisters Edith and Zeak, Judy, Angie and Kathy. His first wife, Cathy Bernice Manor also survives.
Olen's family appreciates the tremendous outpouring of love and support from his friends in DeFuniak Springs and surrounding communities.
Floral arrangements are being accepted. Services will be held Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel with Dr. Bobby Tucker officiating.
