Mr. Allison “Bonnie” Skipper age 82 of Ponce deLeon passed away at his home Tuesday, July 21, 2009. He was born in Holmes County the son of Allison Hiram Skipper and Emma Hardy Skipper. He was a life long resident of Holmes County, living on property homesteaded by his grandparents. Most will remember Bonnie in his association with Skipper’s Barber Shop which he owned and operated some twenty six years in DeFuniak Springs. He was forced to retire when he began losing his sight, which gave him an opportunity to stay home and fish. Countless hours were spent fishing on the river and eventually he built a fish pond near his home. He loved listening to the radio and hardly ever missed The Country Store on W-ZEP 1460AM. He frequently bought and sold on the country store but mainly listened to see “who had what”. He valued his friends immensely, and loved chatting with them on the telephone, especially on their birthdays which he always remembered. He was good with numbers and could easily remember dates. Most importantly Bonnie was a Christian and was saved and was a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church.
Among survivors are his trusted friend and former wife Jo Ann Hicks Skipper. His children Sandy Posey and husband Marty. Faye Skipper McBroom and husband Bud. Randall Skipper and wife Marcie. Kenny Thomas and wife Lisa and Debra Bearden and husband Alan. Six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a special nephew Truett Thomas also survive.
Floral arrangments are being accepted or memorials may be made in Bonnie Skipper’s name to Covenant Hospice, 370 West Redstone Drive, Crestview, Florida 32536. Those asked to serve as pallbearers are Truett Thomas, Zack Skipper, Chris VanWaggoner, Bryce Thomas, Melvin Rhoades and Tommy Hicks. A time of visitation will be Wednesday, July 22, 2009 from 6 until 8 PM at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel with Reverend Dan Padgett officiating. Burial will follow in Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
